CBB star David Gest found dead: Entertainer’s lifeless body discovered in five star London hotel
The legendary producer and CBB star passed away in a five star Canary Wharf.
DAVID Gest has been found dead in his room at a 5 star London hotel.
The legendary American producer and TV personality, 62, passed away at the Four Seasons hotel in Canary Wharf today.
A statement from the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 10:17hrs on Tuesday 12 April to the Four Seasons hotel, in Westferry Circus, E14, to reports of an unexplained death of a man in his 60s.
“A post-mortem will be held in due course. Next of kin are in the process of being informed.”
His close friend Imad Handi said: “It is with great sadness that I can confirm that David Gest has died today.
“David was truly larger than life. He was not just a huge talent and a dear friend but a showbiz icon.
“I know he will be missed by millions of fans around the world, and particularly in Britain, who came to love his charm and blistering one-liners.
“If I may steal the world of one eminent critic, David was a natural star and a genuine celebrity. I will miss him desperately.”
The popular entertainer was scheduled to play 24 dates across the UK alongside Dina Carroll, Russell Thompkins, Jr. and Freda Payne.
David entered the Celebrity Big Brother house in January this year, but left 13 days later on medical grounds.
His death is being treated as unexplained.
David was photographed partying with fellow CBB housemates Kristina Rhianoff and Nancy DellOllio in late February.
The 62-year-old also posed for an Instagram snap with on-off housemate couple Jeremy McConnell and Stephanie Davis last week.
Ex-Hollyoaks actress Stephanie today tweeted about her beloved “grandad” David saying: “My heart is broken. Grandad has gone. Last to get photo with him.
“We made plans and im gutted I won’t see you again.
“What an amazing man and a pleasure to have had times with you, me and Jezz.
“Love you always. Amazing person.”
David, who appeared on the most recent series of Celebrity Big Brother, was set to begin a UK tour ‘David Gest Is Not Dead, But Alive With Soul’ in July.
Shocked celebrities have been paying tribute to the TV personality on social media since news of his death broke this afternoon.
Ex-EastEnder Dean Gaffney told of his heartbreak when he heard the shocking news.
The actor, who met David while filming I’m a Celebrity.. Get Me Out of Here in 2006, said: “Never have I lost a best friend before and this pain hurts harder than anything I’ve ever experienced.
“RIP David Gest, I love you brother.”
Fans of the entertainer sent over 30,000 tweets in just one hour as news of his death trended on Twitter.
“Heaven has gained another angel and our sky a bright night star,” said Daniella Westbrook.
“Love you dearly my friend and I will miss you very much.”
Geordie Shore’s Scotty T, who lived with David in the Big Brother House earlier this year, tweeted: “Can’t believe you’re gone RIP David Gest. What a beautiful human.”
Actor Darren Day said: “I’m devastated to hear about my dear friend David Gest.
“I love and miss you mate. Heaven will be a brighter place.”
Ex-Strictly Come Dancing star Kristina Rihanoff said: “I can’t put it into words how truly sad I am to hear that the wonderful David Gest has passed away.
“One of the best people I got to know in my life.”
While presenter of Big Brother’s Bit On The Side Rylan Clark-Neal said: “So sad to hear the news about David Gest. Really sad news.”
TV personality David came fourth in the 2006 series of I’m a Celebrity, Get me out of Here, amid claims 35,000 votes for him went uncounted due to a voting glitch – causing him to be booted out.
On the show he met Busted’s Matt Willis, husband of Big Brother presenter Emma, who became one of his closest pals.
The last known photo of David was retweeted on his social media account showing the star looking happy to be surrounded by his fans.
The Twitter page, which was set up to raise awareness of testicular cancer in memory of Australian soccer player Dylan Tombides, posted a photo of the entertainer holding up a scarf with the player’s name on, on April 6.
The 62-year-old grew up with Michael Jackson and his brothers in Southern California, and counted the family as his childhood best friends.
In 2001 his television special on Michael Jackson’s 30th anniversary of his solo career was the highest rated in history.
It was the last reunion of Michael Jackson and the Jacksons and two of the star’s last solo concerts.David was married to American singer Liza Minnelli for five years from 2002, although the couple split after 16 months.
Despite a messy divorce battle the popular entertainer insisted he had no hard feelings against his ex-wife.
He once said: “I wish her well and tell people they should see her live in concert. Liza is a great performer – she has been singing the same songs for more than 35 years. She’s a true legend.”
